The Flamenco Nutcracker returns! The fifth annual holiday celebration of Milwaukee’s Flamenco Favorite…

 
Milwaukee -- Experience the passion of Flamenco with an all new international cast of musicians and dancers visiting Milwaukee for this one time event. Latin Grammy nominated guitarist Andrés Vadin of Havana, Cuba will be joined by Grammy award winning percussionist Diego Alvarez of Venezuela and gypsy Flamenco singer José Cortés. The spectacular, internationally renowned dancer and choreographer, Manuel Gutierrez of Córdoba, Spain returns in the role of the Matador Prince. Celebrating its fifth season, The Flamenco Nutcracker will once again transform the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center!

Join us on Saturday, Dec. 7th, with performances at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Adult Premium seats are $40, general admission $30. Student admission is $15 for all seats with free admission for children under age 4. The venue at 901 15th Ave., in South Milwaukee, has parking and is accessible. You won’t want to miss this rare holiday treat! Featuring a percussive footwork duel between the Matador Prince and The Raven Queen, a moving dream sequence with a Dervish dance and a festive ‘Villancico’ (Spanish holiday carol) that explodes in the powerful 12/8 rhythm of the ‘bulerías’ made famous by Paco de Lucia. 

In addition to the December 12th performances, Studio K will also offer free shows for Milwaukee Public School students at South Milwaukee PAC on December 6th and a VIP reception with an intimate performance by the Flamenco Nutcracker artists at GibraltarMKE 131 N. The Flamenco Nutcracker features guest dancer from Spain, Manuel Gutierrez (dance, choreography), Studio K Flamenco Artistic Director Kerensa DeMars (dance, choreography, artistic direction), guest dancer Melissa Cruz and the Studio K Company Dancers with music by Andres Vadin (guitar), Manuel Gutierrez (vocals, percussion) José Cortés (vocals, percussion) and Diego Alvarez (percussion).

Studio K Flamenco is committed to preserving the cultural integrity of Flamenco and bringing the beauty and power of this traditional art form to the community in Milwaukee and beyond. The art of Flamenco was recognized as a World Heritage Treasure by the United Nations in 2010.

With accomplished Flamenco artist and Wisconsin native Kerensa DeMars at the helm as artistic director, Studio K Flamenco has an 18-year history of presenting Flamenco music and dance concerts. The studio relocated to Milwaukee from San Francisco, CA in August 2019. In San Francisco, productions included Volver, which premiered to sold out audiences at San Francisco’s Brava Theater in 2019.

In Milwaukee, Studio K’s programs include the FlamencoMKE performance series, bilingual programs in schools, classes for youth, adults, and seniors, the annual Flamenco Nutcracker and the 2025 premiere of the (W)here in the World Dance Festival set for May 31-June 1 at UWM’s Mainstage Theater.
